Verrado sits at the base of the White Tank Mountains. The county’s White Tank Mountain Regional Park is the big public playground next door — Sonoran Desert ridges, saguaros, and enough trail mileage to fill a year of weekends.

• Longer ridge and loop options exist for people who want fewer selfies and more elevation — pick routes from county maps, not hearsay.

Heat & monsoon safety

Heat kills ambitious plans faster than elevation does.

• Summer: sunrise starts, electrolytes, shade plan, and a real turnaround time. Midday desert hiking is a bad hobby.
• Monsoon season: lightning and wash flooding are not theoretical. If storms are building, turn around early — dry washes can move fast.
• Carry more water than feels polite. Tell someone your plan. Stay on designated trails.
